The weather...
... has been great this year for soccer! The grass is green and the fields are lush. Yes, it has put a damper on some summer activities - but not soccer.
Just a reminder that West End United plays in the rain! Only lightening storms keep us off the pitch and that is a decision made by game officials at game time.
Teams without the requisite number of players will default games. Please try to make every effort to attend - regardless of the weather.
House League game scoring
Team officials, please ensure that all games scores are up to date on the system.
2008 Scotiabank House League Finals Day
The House League season ends with Scotiabank House League Finals Day on Saturday 2008 September 13 at High Park. Stay tuned for details.
Please note volunteers are needed to help make Finals Day a success. To volunteer, please contact the House League co-ordinator.
2008 All-Star Day
All-Star Day is coming... Saturday 2008 September 27! Coaches and managers, please check the All-Star Program page to see how your team is involved.
Sponsorship
The West End United Soccer Club would be unable to provide any soccer programs for the community without the support of our sponsors. Please check out our list of sponsors for the 2008 season... and take the time to frequent their businesses.
We thank them.
U18G wins U18G Cup Final
WEUSC's Under 18 Girls team (U18G) beat a previously-undefeated Peterborough side to win the U18G Cup Final game in Unionville. WEUSC came back from a 3:1 deficit to tie the game. The team then went on to play two 10 minute overtime periods in which WEUSC scored 2 goals to win.
Congratulations, girls!
House League Call-ups
Summer vacations are now here. We can all expect diminished rosters in the weeks ahead. Please refer to the House League Call-Up procedures.
Winter Soccer
West End United has applied to the TDSB and the City for a number of gymnasiums in the area in order to establish an Indoor House League this coming fall and winter.
Games would be on a weekday evening or possibly a weekend morning or afternoon. The games would be played with 5 players per side including a goalkeeper. The team rosters would be smaller as well, with an anticipated maximum limit of 10 players per team. We would like to include for players with a birth year as young as 2002 and as old as 1990.
This will be an excellent method to further develop soccer skills during the off-season. We would estimate the cost to be in the $100 to $150 range.
At this time we are simply measuring what the potential demand might be for this league. If you think your son or daughter would be interested in this opportunity, please e-mail registrar@weusc.ca.
WEUSC: Working hard to serve you better...
West End United is a volunteer-run organisation. It is only as good as its people. Volunteers are doing their best to respond as quickly as possible but, as you can well-imagine, still need to balance their own lives and careers.
We ask you for your patience and thank you for your understanding.
A number of House League divisions are in need of coaches and other on-field personnel (assistant coaches, managers and people able to administer first aid). Without volunteers, there are simply no games. To help make this a fun summer for our kids, please contact the head of the House League program at vp@weusc.ca.
As well, the club is looking for volunteers to assist in the background to fill various roles like secretary, Web Master and people to support the work of various committees. To offer assistance in this area, please contact registrar@weusc.ca.
2007 Tax Receipts
New tax legislation now allows for the deduction from income of fees paid to organisations (such as the West End United Soccer Club) which are directed towards physical fitness for youth.
Accordingly, tax receipts for fees paid to West End United for the 2007 outdoor season were e-mailed to each parent on February 5, 2008. Unfortunately, the first e-mail message was in error due to a problem with the the club's service provider's database. This problem was corrected and a second receipt was e-mailed the same day. This invoice should be attached to your 2007 tax return.
If your child participated in the Competitive Program, you must contact the individual Rep teams to receive your receipts.
If you did not receive an e-mailed invoice or you feel it still contains an error, please contact the Registrar at registrar@weusc.ca for assistance. Please note “2007 Tax Receipt” in the subject box.
Communication
WEUSC does not accept voice mail messages regarding registration questions or other club matters, as West End United Soccer Club is run by parent volunteers. Please check our web site often for club news and updates.
The most effective way to communicate with the WEUSC volunteers is through the e-mail contacts provided on our web site. If you have a message for a competitive team, please contact the coach or manager directly.
